When our client first called Home Leader Renovation, their bathroom hadn’t been touched in decades — and its howed. Between the aging fiberglass tub, the frosted sliding shower doors, and the busy floral wallpaper, the space felt cramped, worn out, and stuck in another era. Today, that same bathroom is a bright, spa-like retreat with a walk-in glass shower, a custom vanity, and finishes that feel modern without losing warmth. Here’s how we got there.
The Starting Point
Before we picked up a single tool, the bathroom had all the hallmarks of a home that hadn’t been updated since it was built:
- A fiberglass tub-shower combo with a heavy, frosted sliding glass door that made the narrow room feel even smaller
- Small beige tile on the tub surround, chipped and grimy with age
- Busy striped wallpaper covering the upper walls, clashing with the pale pink tile below
- A cramped, oddly-shaped laminate vanity with a shallow oval sink and old chrome fixtures
- Yellowed lighting and a single small window that struggled to brighten the space
- Worn white tile flooring that had seen better decades
It was functional, but it wasn’t doing the homeowner or the rest of the house any favors.
The Renovation Process
As with every project, we started with a consultation to understand what the homeowner wanted: more light, more storage, and a bathroom that felt clean and current. From there, our team moved through design and material selection before getting to work on-site, handling everything from demolition and plumbing to tile and cabinetry installation.
Key parts of the renovation included:
Ripping out the old tub-shower. The bulky fiberglass tub and its sliding frosted door came out completely, opening up the layout for something far more functional.
Building a custom walk-in shower. In its place, we installed a frameless, sliding glass shower enclosure with a sleek matte black frame and hardware. Inside, large-format porcelain tile on the walls pairs with a textured pebble-style tile floor for grip and visual interest. A rain shower head and a handheld wand, both in matte black, give the homeowner flexibility and a genuine upgrade in everyday comfort.
Replacing the flooring. The old white tile was swapped for warm, wood-look porcelain plank tile that runs throughout the bathroom, instantly making the space feel bigger and more cohesive.
Installing a brand-new vanity. We replaced the old laminate vanity with a light wood, shaker-style cabinet topped with a white quartz countertop. Paired with matte black faucets and cabinet pulls, it strikes a clean, modern balance without feeling cold.
Updating lighting and fixtures. A new LED vanity light bar and a framed black mirror brighten the space significantly compared to the old fixtures, while black towel bars and hardware tie the whole room together.
Fresh paint and finishing touches. The old wallpaper came down, and the walls were painted a soft sage green a calming, neutral backdrop that complements the wood tones and black accents throughout the room.
The Result
The transformation speaks for itself. What was once a tight, dated bathroom with a tired tub-shower is now an airy, contemporary space anchored by a beautiful walk-in shower and a vanity that feels custom-built for the room. Natural light bounces further thanks to the lighter palette, and every fixture from the shower hardware to the cabinet pulls was chosen to work together as one cohesive design.
This project is a great example of what a full bathroom renovation can do: it’s not just a cosmetic refresh, it’s a rethink of how the space works and feels every single day.
